What is a Planetary Gearbox?

A planetary gearbox is a special drive system designed to provide a high gear ratio in a compact design. This system includes a central gear (called the sun gear), multiple gears that rotate around it (the planet gears), and an outer toothed ring (the ring gear). All components are mounted on a carrier to create a concentric, stable, and efficient drive system.

With this mechanism, a planetary gearbox can transmit a very high torque compared to traditional gearboxes of the same size, while also ensuring stable, long-term operation.

Basic Structure of Planetary Gearboxes

A planetary gearbox consists of four main components:

• Sun Gear: Located at the center, it receives motion from the motor.
• Planet Gears: Rotate around the sun gear and mesh with the outer ring gear.
• Planet Carrier: Holds the planet gears and transmits the output motion.
• Ring Gear: Surrounds the entire system and has internal teeth.
