Chemical Resistance and Working Environment

Fiber types demonstrate resistance to various chemical factors—strong/weak acids, strong/weak alkalis, solvents, oxidation, hydrolysis, and more—with performance ranging from “Very Good” to “Poor”. Below are some typical evaluations:

  • PTFE and Glass Fiber offer very good resistance to most chemicals; PTFE fabric, in particular, demonstrates comprehensive chemical inertness.
  • PPS offers very good resistance to alkali, acid, and hydrolysis, but its oxidation resistance is moderate.
  • Aramid and Acrylic (Homopolymer) show good resistance to abrasion and hydrolysis; Aramid also offers higher heat resistance.
  • Polyester and Polyamide show moderate to poor chemical resistance and are susceptible to degradation under high temperature and high humidity.

 

Role and Application of Filter Media in Industries

  • Blocking particulate matter and fine dust: Ensuring clean exhaust gas that meets environmental requirements.
  • Resistance to chemicals, temperature, and corrosion: Filter media is selected based on the environment (heat, chemicals, moist dust, etc.).
  • Enhancing lifespan and saving costs: Suitable media helps limit replacement frequency, reducing maintenance costs.
  • Applications: Cement, steel, hot mix asphalt, animal feed, waste incineration, thermal power, chemicals, fertilizer, wood, paper, pharmaceuticals, etc.

Guidelines for Selecting Appropriate Filter Media based on Specific Needs

  • Medium temperature (<150∘C), dry environment → Polyester (cost-effective, high performance)
  • Moist environment, high humidity → Polyester with oil- and water-repellent finish or Acrylic
  • High temperature (180–200∘C), acidic/alkaline chemicals → PPS (Ryton)
  • Very high temperature, high abrasion, strong oxidation → Nomex (Aramid), or P84 if higher heat resistance is required
  • Requirement for anti-static properties – in cement, flammable chemicals → Anti-static Polyester
  • Gas containing extremely strong chemicals, high heat, and oxidation → PTFE or Glass-ePTFE (optimal durability)
